To convince the Lane County Board of Commissioners to accept our LARs into the County road system, we must show them that we are a large force of potential voters, and that we will not give up on this issue. Testifying at meetings is important, but emailing is also helpful.

I am writing about local access roads in Eugene. I am just learning that homeowners are expected to maintain their LAR because they were left out of the county road system.
Most LARs look and function just like county-maintained roads. I pay my taxes just like neighbors on county-maintained roads do, and I have a right to receive the same maintenance service. That the rest of the public is allowed to drive on my road, but their taxes don’t go to maintaining it is unfair. That my taxes go to maintain theirs, but not mine, is just as unfair.
LAR homeowners deserve equal protection under the law. Please do the right thing and accept local access roads within the Eugene urban growth boundary into the county road system, without requiring that they meet current standards for new roads, since they should have been accepted decades ago.
We’re not asking for preferential treatment, we’re asking for fairness – that our roads be in line for maintenance along with all other public roads based on function and condition, and maintained as the budget allows.
Thank you.
