RRCO Board Speaks Out on Local Access Roads

After hearing from a record crowd of homeowners at its March community meeting on local access roads, the Board of the River Road Community Organization voted unanimously with one abstention to send a letter to the Lane County Board of Commissioners, urging them to take River Road local access roads into the County road system. RRCO conveyed homeowner concerns that:

  • They are responsible for maintaining these roads.
  • They pay transportation taxes (that fund road maintenance), just like residents on County and City roads, and yet none of this benefits their own roads.
  • They might bear liability for damage or injury arising out of road conditions.
  • Most were not aware of their responsibilities.
  • Property values may be negatively impacted.

In addition RRCO is concerned that leaving roads in homeowners’ hands will lead to further road degradation that will impact the quality of life in the neighborhood.

This letter was delivered to the Board of Commissioners on April 22. Read the letter: RRCO Letter on LARs to Lane County Board of Commissioners
